Shapes of View

The Shapes of View is an interactive audio-visual media installation. It consists of four main parts: floor projection, wall mapping, soundscape and lights. Every component is linked to the sensor (Xbox Kinect), which detects the participant’s movement. This project was made by a group of people (Lajos Kolozsvari, Alexadre Filippov, Johnas Rodriguez, Qi Gong).

The size of the floor projection specifies the exact surface where the movement can be detected and different shapes can be projected around the participant’s legs. This rectangle surface is surrounded by four speakers in the four corners with a subwoofer and a wall mapping in front of the entering area. When somebody steps on the surface, evolving shapes organised in a circle fade in with an airy ambient sound and projected formations on wall start to move. Getting close to each speaker, unique sounds are triggered depending on the distance between the actual speaker and the person. Just as in the case of the sound, the wall projection is reacts to the position. The closer the participant is to the wall, the bigger the formations are. Everything happens depending on the visitor’s movements and position. The realisation needed five computers to run the installation. One for the Kinect, one for the floor projection, one for the sound, one for the wall projection and one for the lights. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations the surface size had be minimised.
